Panama is an active link that connects the Americas and the Caribbean. Its booming economy remains as the second most competitive in Latin America according to the Global Competitiveness Index from the World Economic Forum. Panama's jungle is home to an abundance of tropical plants, animals and birds – some of them to be found nowhere else in the world. Currently the country has assumed the challenge of expanding its strategic canal, is building a modern subway and its tourism industry is flourishing.
We have chosen the City of Knowledge as the host venue of this event for its location, its facilities and its history. Just a few minutes from downtown Panama City, City of Knowledge is strategically located across from the Panama Canal. Some 120 hectares and more than 200 buildings of what was once the Clayton military base are now home to a booming international community established for the purpose of business, academic, scientific, and humanistic collaboration. The objective is human and sustainable development based on knowledge. A nonprofit organization that manages the City of Knowledge with high standards of quality and lot of human warmth.
We look forward to seeing you all at the Symposium in 2014!

"When Iain Chalmers was Director of the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit, I was employed there as his Administrator from 1982 to 1993. When Iain left that Unit to establish the Cochrane Centre in Oxford, I moved there with him as Administrator of the Pregnancy and Childbirth Group. That position led to my becoming Administrator of The Cochrane Collaboration a few years later. The best thing in my life is my daughter Daisy (now aged 24). The second best thing is to have experienced a thoroughly fulfilling and enjoyable career for the past twenty years, thanks to my Cochrane 'family' around the world."
